Pet Wellness Visits

Wellness visits are important for every stage of a pet's life. Regular wellness exams allow the veterinarian to evaluate a pet's general health and become aware of any health problems before they become serious illnesses. By visiting a veterinarian at least once a year, a pet has the best chance for a long, happy, and healthy life.

At a wellness visit, a pet will be given a complete physical exam. This includes an examination of the animal's eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin, hair, abdomen, rear, legs, paws, heart and lungs. Routine blood testing and urinalysis tests may also be performed, and vaccinations may be updated. The veterinarian will also ask about the pet's health and behavioral history. Vital statistics will also be monitored including:

  • Internal temperature
  • Pulse
  • Breathing
  • Body weight

The veterinarian may also recommend additional testing to diagnose or verify a health problem, if any abnormalities are found during the pet's examination.

All pets should see a veterinarian for a wellness exam at least once every year. As the pet becomes older, however, more frequent wellness visits may be recommended.
